Misunderstood The Term “Jihad”

I’ve just watch Traitor. I usually don’t watch this kind of movie but once in a while i have to have a variety to widen my perspective. first i’m posting this is not flaming or anythings but i just fed up with the misunderstanding of the term “jihad”, when the movie say something about jihad it’s like the meaning is killing yourself in to killing the enemies of your beliefs. In my humble opinion that is so wrong. To understand what is jihad, at first let ask google on this with the “define:jihad” keyword, the first result is

Jihad: An Arabic word meaning “to struggle” or “to exhaust one’s effort.” The “effort” can mean preaching Islam and living virtuously in accordance with God’s commands.

The key point word is struggle. struggle in god’s cause. to understand furthermore, my teacher once taught me an example to explain about jihad, he says “if you die in a car accident while going to work to fulfill your family needs or if you die of a heart attack while doing a prayer or salat, then you are considered dying while jihad”.

Without going depth explaining, let just say that family in Islam is the pillar of society and salat is the second pillar of Islam. Going to work to fulfill your family needs is considered a struggle in doing the teaching of Islam and it is also with salat, both of those activities is considered as jihad. With or without getting killed or dying, the activities itself it’s called jihad (correct me if i’m wrong).

i am no expert in Islam, but when i see that this term is always misunderstood, i just hope by posting this could help explaining what is the meaning of jihad.
